The third and final Attitudes Mineures residency took place at the Lycée pro Montciel in Lons-le-Saunier in May 2017. This high school offers a singular architecture: it is a former begging depot from the 19th century built in a U-shape. Although it seduces the employees because of its gleaming character, the students appreciate it only moderately and find an artificial side to it, given the lack of freedom in the use of living spaces and circulation. The project has been developed here with students from the 1st pro commerce class. Each pupil’s proposal is constructed from their study subjects (commercial and communication) and articulates issues such as: the separation of work and living spaces, the traces left by consumers in the city, the societal aspirations of future citizens, and finally the rules imposed in the high school or in the city and the possibility of playing with it, or even freeing oneself from it.
Le Projet is a set of 31 fake headlines from a potential local newspaper inspired by Le Progrès. Each headline was installed day after day in a poster holder, either on the glass door of the entrance pavilion or on the window of the CDI on the 1st floor. The headlines were designed during a writing and drawing workshop, where each group forms a fictitious editorial board. When the local newspaper deploys a reductive vision of current events and day-to-day social issues, Le Projet reintroduces concerns that are specific to teenagers, to their scale of life and to the time of their entry into the workforce.
VISUAL ARTISTS IN HIGH SCHOOL
Attitudes Mineures brings together three school residencies with the artist Mathieu Tremblin.
The first took place at the private agricultural teaching school Saint Joseph in Les Fontenelles, France, from 6 to 8 March and from 20 to 23 March 2017 with the students.
The second took place at the Lycée Jacques Duhamel in Dole from 10 to 14 April and from 9 to 12 May 2017 with the students too.
The third residency took place at the Montciel vocational high school in Lons-le-Saunier from 2 to 4 May and from 30 May to 2 June with the students too.
Attitudes Mineures is part of the 2016-2017 “Plastic Artists in High School” scheme initiated by the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region with the support of the DRAC and in partnership with the DAAC of the Rectorate of the Besançon Academy and the DRAAF.
Founding member of the duo Les Frères Ripoulain since 2006, Mathieu Tremblin lives in Strasbourg and works in Europe. He is inspired by anonymous, autonomous and spontaneous practices and expressions in the urban space and implements simple and playful actions to question the systems of legislation, representation and symbolization of the city. He favours contextual intervention in the urban space, performance walking, the creation of tools, the hijacking of objects, and uses editions, installations, photographs, and videos to document or reinvest his experiments.
