The second phase of the Attitudes Mineures residency took place at the Duhamel high school in Dole in the spring of 2017. As the application for the scheme was made by a documentalist teacher, among others, the school librairy quite naturally became a support base for demonstrating and documenting my presence within the school. The other teachers associated with the project proposed to Mathieu Tremblin to build his interventions in echo with a specific class and the discipline taught.
Datation ouverte is a contextual intervention made from a mosaic placed in the school, under an outside access ramp (called the blue ramp), and reproducing an alien from Space Invaders, the video game of fixed shooter in an arcade.
Testimonies are collected around the probable origin of this Space Invader. Was it one of the first invasions by the Parisian artist Invader or a copycat made by high school students? Everything indicates that the intervention was carried out between 1995 and the early 2000s. A mosaic showing an “open dating” is affixed opposite this Space Invader of uncertain origin to show an attempt at dating.
VISUAL ARTISTS IN HIGH SCHOOL
Attitudes Mineures brings together three school residencies with the artist Mathieu Tremblin.
The first took place at the private agricultural teaching school Saint Joseph in Les Fontenelles, France, from 6 to 8 March and from 20 to 23 March 2017 with the students.
The second took place at the Lycée Jacques Duhamel in Dole from 10 to 14 April and from 9 to 12 May 2017 with the students too.
The third residency took place at the Montciel vocational high school in Lons-le-Saunier from 2 to 4 May and from 30 May to 2 June with the students too.
Attitudes Mineures is part of the 2016-2017 “Plastic Artists in High School” scheme initiated by the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region with the support of the DRAC and in partnership with the DAAC of the Rectorate of the Besançon Academy and the DRAAF.
Founding member of the duo Les Frères Ripoulain since 2006, Mathieu Tremblin lives in Strasbourg and works in Europe. He is inspired by anonymous, autonomous and spontaneous practices and expressions in the urban space and implements simple and playful actions to question the systems of legislation, representation and symbolization of the city. He favours contextual intervention in the urban space, performance walking, the creation of tools, the hijacking of objects, and uses editions, installations, photographs, and videos to document or reinvest his experiments.
