Biography
In Brad Downey’s works everything makes reference to the external and the real or social limits that constitute the urban area. Taking advantage of daily flaws (damaged barrier, abandoned bicycle, construction site…), he uses the means he has, detritus from construction tools, to design spontaneous sculptures and create strong, odd or irreverent ephemeral situations. His work revolves mainly around the role of the individual in the city and its physical or dreamlike construction. Taking advantage of the flaws in the environment in which he finds himself, he uses the means in his possession to produce his spontaneous sculptures. He plays with street objects in an unconventional way to reorganize them and give them a new meaning. His creations live to the rhythm of the environment in which they are created and can therefore remain in place for only a few minutes. Interested in geopolitical power issues as much as in the absurdity of everyday situations, he is today one of the benchmarks of international urban art.
