Green rays are extremely rare optical phenomena that sometimes happen right after sunset. When the conditions are perfect, a green ray is visible above the upper rim of the disk of the sun. The green ray lasts for no more than a second or two. They occur because the atmosphere separates the light in different colours. Le Rayon vert is a novel by Jules Verne published in 1882 and named after the optical phenomenon of the same name. It is referenced in a 1986 film of the same name by Eric Rohmer. Every night, for a quarter of hour, an apartment of a big building of the periphery of Besançon is illuminated with a green light excessive for a regular apartment. A strange green flash calls our attention in a quiet and unexciting neighbourhood, far from the old and opulent centre of the city but visible from some high points of view. Inside this vast building, a kind of residency for temporary workers and students, there might be a rumour about a room with an inexplicable potent light under the door, about some people that go there every night. The minuscule room looks even smaller in contrast with the dimensions of the flashlight. From the outside, some unwilling witnesses might discover the situation. Others might not. As the Green ray, it would be a rare specimen to be seen. For the inhabitants of the neighbourhood it is a material of speculation and gossips. Due to its infrequent presence, the green ray, appears as a allegory of the desire of what we cant have. Is associated with frustration but as well with imagination, desire, with the connections between possible and impossible.
