In Besançon and with highschool kids of the Diderot college, the choice of Cyprien Desrez fell on the manufacture of sandstone bricks. Each of the middle school students represented a region or a country on each of the bricks, with the final aim of bringing them all together in appareil Anglais or Flamand on the entrance wall of their High School.
The project is carried out in two stages, over two very distinct periods: from November 18 to December 5, 2019, Cyprien proposed to college students to shape the facing bricks and to imagine and then draw on the bricks.
The second phase will take place in the second week of June 2020 and will be devoted to installing the bricks on the wall at the entrance to the college… and the grand opening of the wall on June 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.!
Cyprien Desrez likes to travel. Through his travels, but also through the internet or even through supermarkets, he takes pleasure in discovering new territories, studying the composition of the spaces he comes into contact with and understanding – at least in part – how these can to define oneself.
He likes to endorse the attitude of the hawker, of the one who moves (spatially or virtually), collects information (images, words, languages, gestures) related to cultural identities to translate them. Starting from the observation of how regions and identities can be formed, he likes to see how these can be mixed.
